Clayton Homes is a privately-held builder of manufactured and modular housing. Based in Knoxville, Tenn., it is the largest manufacturer of factory-built homes, with nearly 50 percent U.S. market share.
The company, founded by Jim Clayton, was purchased by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, Inc., in 2004. Today the company is run by Clayton’s son, Kevin Clayton.
Clayton employs more than 13,000 workers and in 2015 alone made more than 34,000 homes, providing a doorway to American Dream of homeownership.
